ABSTRACT Purpose Perform content validation of a decannulation protocol for tracheostomized adult patients. Methods To validate the developed by speech therapists, Delphi technique was used. The 11 items were judged experts through rounds via e-mail and classified as adequate, partially adequate or inadequate, in addition to providing comments suggestions on each item. 30 respiratory physiotherapists physicians responsible tracheostomy procedure invited. percentage agreement adopted ≥ 80% process interrupted when this obtained all items. Results At end process, 24 professionals participated third round, being 46% 29% 25% physicians. After experts' comments, two kept they initial protocol, seven reformulated, six included excluded. final version included: identification, absence abundant secretions, characteristics secretion, effective cough, ability remove tolerate deflated cuff, aptitude level consciousness, change cannula smaller caliber, current/active infection, spontaneous swallowing saliva, use valve, occlusion cannula, assessment objective examinations. Conclusion Through Technique, instrument validated, with substantial changes occurring. next stage is obtaining evidence validity relation internal structure.
